Stewardship Through Education program; El Dorado Forestry Challenge, Wednesday through Saturday, October 25 to 28, 2017.

MaryAnne Garamendi, retired teacher, manages the Stewardship Through Education Program (STE) for K-12 students in Calaveras and Amador Counties (http://www.steonline.org/Home.html).  The program focuses on watershed health and is adding four lessons on wildland fire.

As an introduction to our school programs, she has invited us to visit the annual inter-high school event called Forestry Challenge.  This year it is the El Dorado Forestry Challenge – Wednesday through Saturday, October 25 to 28, 2017. During this session, Forest Service staff with experience implementing the Work Finance Principle will answer the following questions:

  • “What is the Work Finance Principle?”
  • “How is it different from how we funded our work previously?”
  • “What’s the advantage? How can it help my unit achieve its restoration goals?”
  • “What resources and tools are available to help my unit understand and use the Work Finance Principle?”

The target audience for this session is Forest Service budget staff and restoration-related program managers involved in planning, allocating, and obligating Forest Service funds.
