This is a great article detailing a field trip organized by Robert Smith and the CalAm team in January. We were shown four different sites that were in various stages of mastication. It was SO interesting. This was extremely helpful to the grant writers who attended, as it gave us a clear picture of how mastication works, and the various results achieved with different equipment and multiple treatments. The goal is to determine which mastication techniques will provide little or no maintenance for 10 years, greatly increasing the value of fuel reduction projects.
