In fall 2017 and spring 2018 we (NFS, S&PF, R&D) installed a replicated field study to evaluate (1) using dead trees to create biochar and (2) the subsequent environmental impacts of 3 rates of biochar application (0, 3, and 10 tons/acre). If you can fit this into your schedule, we’d love to see you on the site. We have several demonstrations planned to help show large- and small-scale uses for biochar made from forest feedstocks.
Come learn about:
- Converting dead timber to biochar
- How biochar can change soil water holding capacity
- Biochar improvements to soil and forest health
- Biochar impacts on termites, ants, and other insects
- Using biochar to increase understory health
- How biochar can enhance ecosystem services
Forest and research scientists and industry collaborators will be on-site to share their experiences with biochar and answer questions.
