Announcing a series of three-day California Forest Stewardship Workshops

January 11th, 12th & 25th: UC Coop Extension Office, Ukiah
February 1st, 2nd, 8th: University of California, Berkeley
March 7th, 8th, 14th: Shasta College, Redding
April 25th, 26th, May 9th: Government Center, Mariposa
June 27th, 28th, July 11th: Blodgett Forest, Georgetown

 

This workshop series will help landowners develop plans to improve and protect their forest lands in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner. The workshops will address management objectives and planning, forest restoration, fuels reduction, project development, permitting, and cost-share opportunities. Participants will connect with other landowners and learn how to collect information to develop their own management plans.

Workshop Format:
Similar three-day workshops will be across California. Days one and two will consist of classroom and forest-based instruction on ecological concepts and measurement skills. After a week’s break to collect information on their own property, participants will return for day three to write up their management plans. Participants who complete their plans will be eligible for a free visit by a Registered Professional Forester to assess its content.

The workshops will be organized by the University of California Cooperative Extension in collaboration with: CAL FIRE, Forest Landowners of California, USFS Region 5, the American Forest Foundation, California Association of Resource Conservation Districts, and the California Fire Safe Council.

The Forest Stewardship Education Initiative is a CAL FIRE funded contract (8CA04547), awarded July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2021, to the University of California Cooperative Extension to help landowners develop forest management plans. Forest Stewardship Education Initiative – Project overview

Registration:
Registration for the workshop costs $60. Lunches on two days and materials will be provided. Registration is available at http://ucanr.edu/forestryworskhopregistration.
