In January 2022, the U.S. Forest Service published the wildfire crisis strategy termed, Confronting the Wildfire Crisis: A Strategy for Protecting Communities and Improving Resilience in America’s Forests (click here to view the strategy). The intent of the strategy is to begin working with partners to dramatically increase fuels and forest health treatments by up to four times current treatment levels in the West.
The initial step of this strategy was a plan developed and published in April 2022, the Initial Landscape Investments to Protect Communities and Improve Resilience in America’s Forests. This plan identified 10 initial landscapes across the West to begin implementing the strategy under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) investments, including the Stanislaus National Forest.
