Renowned home fire-protection expert, Dr. Stephen QuarlesUC Cooperative Extension Advisor Emeritus, will join us at the September 11 SOFAR Collaborative meeting to discuss:

  • Creating fire-adapted communities
  • Best planning practices within and adjacent communities
  • Articulating the costs and long-term benefits of doing treatments

Dr. Quarles’ extensive outreach and research career has helped strengthen homes’ resilience to wildfire. He worked for the UC system for 26 years before serving as the Chief Scientist for Wildfire and Durability at the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety Research Center. He also served as both instructor and advisor to the State on wildfire building codes and standards. Join us on September 11 as Dr. Quarles shares his experience and insight on how communities can be proactive and reduce their risks to wildfire.
